As we all would know or come to appreciate, Mankind’s Perennial Philosophy or the Wisdom of the Ages has been pointing to what is Real (Numenon, Timeless, Changeless, Ground of Being, the Source of All Things) and to what is Relative (Phenomena, the world, forms, perceivable in time and space, continually changing) as ultimately One and the Same. Hence the Non-duality perspective. Each of the great traditions has expressed that fundamental understanding in different ways over the last 3-4,000 years, especially in their esoteric teachings, but essentially pointing to the same view. Some of the most thorough explanations related to this, on which I'm basing the descriptions blow, can be found in the work of two modern American mystics: Ken Wilber, a mystic scientist-philosopher and Dr David Hawkins. Both speak from direct knowledge.
In our discussions we have actually been delving into the Perennial Philosophy, and come up against the inherent difficulty in using language to communicate about That which is beyond language. So, even though we are doing well in understanding each other, I suggest that adopting some ‘languaging’ conventions could be helpful in the communication.
To start with, capitals can be used to indicate/point to that which is the One and Only Reality, and lower case to indicate references to the relative, the world we know through our senses and mind consciousness. It’s a convention used in most of the ‘sacred’ writings since the earliest historical times. Some basic terms (please add others as needed):
“I”- Ultimate Subjectivity; the greater sense of self; also known as Self, Big Mind, One, Father, He/She, God, and many other names (see below).
I – personal pronoun that refers to the body/mind apparatus; the unit; that which is born and dies; the self-conscious identity with the above, with a life story, and a sense of authorship for thoughts, actions, decisions.
‘Me’, ‘You’ – same as “I”.
‘me’, ‘you’ - same as I.
“I” dimension synonyms and descriptions: Awareness; Awakeness; Consciousness; Cognizing Emptiness; Ground of Being; Eternal, Timeless, Changeless One; Kosmos; the Here and Now; Reality; All There Is; the Source; the Unborn; the One No-thing going on; Love; Great Spirit in the Sky; This; That; and many others which have been used to refer or point to What Is Already Always the case.
I dimension synonyms and descriptions: the many, forms, objects, perceptions, sensations, mind, mind consciousness, thoughts, concepts, thinking, feeling, imagining, seeing, hearing, and all other modes of perception which refer to the perceptible world apprehended through the senses and mind consciousness (the body/mind). It is the relative, always changing, impermanent dimension of reality. I, me, you arise within this dimension.
